BSOP Surpasses R$1B in Total Prize Payouts
The Brazilian Series of Poker (BSOP) reached a significant landmark in 2026, announcing during the opening of its São Paulo stage that cumulative prize payouts across all events have now exceeded R$1 billion.
Across 141 stages, this milestone reflects an average payout of more than R$7 million per event. However, the pace of growth has accelerated sharply in recent years. While it took a decade to reach the first R$500 million by mid-2023, the following R$500 million was generated in just 14 tournaments, lifting the average prize pool to over R$35 million per event in that period.
Strong Momentum and Growth Outlook
The rapid expansion has prompted optimistic forecasts from BSOP leadership. CEO Rafael Moraes indicated that the series could potentially double total payouts to R$2 billion by 2028, pointing to current performance trends as evidence of sustained momentum.
A clear example of this growth can be seen in BSOP Millions 2025, the flagship event of the calendar. Held over 16 days, the tournament introduced Brazil’s first R$500,000 buy-in event, with the winner claiming R$6 million. Overall prize money for the festival exceeded R$17 million, while total payouts for BSOP Millions rose 40.5% year-on-year, reaching R$134.94 million.
From Early Challenges to Industry Scale
The circuit’s current scale contrasts sharply with its early years. According to founder and current CFO Devanir Campos, the series initially faced uncertainty over its long-term viability. Over time, consistent development and growing player engagement helped establish BSOP as a major fixture in the regional poker landscape.
Growing Recognition of Poker
Poker’s status in Brazil has also evolved, with the game now recognised as a mind sport by the International Mind Sports Association. This shift has contributed to broader acceptance and legitimacy, supported by institutional recognition and increased public visibility.
Celebrity Appeal and International Reach
The popularity of poker in Brazil has been further boosted by high-profile participation. Figures such as Ronaldo Nazário, Neymar Jr., Maurren Maggi and other sports personalities have taken part in events, helping to raise the profile of the circuit.
Today, BSOP is regarded as the largest poker series in Latin America, attracting international players and gaining recognition on the global stage, including at the Global Poker Awards. With growth accelerating, the series appears well positioned to reach new milestones in the coming years.
