LOTBA Launches Training Against Illegal Gambling
Argentina’s gambling regulator LOTBA has introduced a series of training workshops for individuals prosecuted under Article 301 bis of the Argentine Criminal Code, which relates to gambling-related offences. The initiative is being carried out under probation agreements established with FEJA, the prosecutor’s office focused on illegal gambling investigations.
The agreement was signed by Juan Rozas and is being implemented in coordination with LOTBA’s Legal Secretariat, headed by Rodrigo Branca.
The sessions were led by Ezequiel Domínguez alongside representatives from LOTBA Gaming. According to the regulator, the workshops form part of the behavioral conditions imposed during suspended judicial proceedings involving people accused of participating in illegal gambling activities.
Participants were informed about the criminal, economic and social risks connected to unlicensed gambling operations. The sessions also covered the regulatory framework, monitoring systems, and consumer protection measures applied within Buenos Aires’ licensed gambling market.
LOTBA strengthens prevention efforts
LOTBA explained that the initiative is part of a broader strategy focused on prevention and enforcement against gambling operations functioning outside the legal framework.
The regulator has recently increased cooperation with judicial authorities to address the criminal side of online gambling while also developing awareness and corrective programs.
According to LOTBA, the training sessions are designed not only to satisfy judicial obligations but also to encourage greater understanding of the importance of operating within regulated and responsible environments.
Speaking about the initiative, Ezequiel Domínguez said the workshops serve both judicial and educational purposes.
“On one side, they are part of the judicial process and on the other side, they generate awareness about the implications of illegal gambling and about the importance of operating in regulated environments,” Domínguez explained.
The workshops are now considered part of LOTBA’s wider strategy, which includes collaboration with judicial authorities through probation agreements that establish specific behavioral conditions for defendants.
“This is not merely an educational activity, these are concrete instruments of an overall policy aimed at prevention, control and coordination with the judiciary” Domínguez added.
LOTBA has recently expanded its actions against unregulated operators through website blocking measures, formal complaints and responsible gambling awareness campaigns. The regulator warned that illegal operators create significant risks for consumers because they function outside official regulatory and protection systems.
Domínguez also highlighted the absence of basic safeguards on unlicensed gambling platforms, including identity verification systems, protections for minors and responsible gambling controls.
He further noted that a lack of oversight creates additional concerns regarding transparency, personal data security and the protection of customer funds.
LOTBA believes consumer awareness remains a key part of tackling illegal gambling, emphasizing that the issue extends beyond legality and also involves safety and consumer protection.
“I think the key message here is that responsible gambling is not only legal but also safe and secure” Domínguez said.
