LOTBA Signs Deal to Prevent Underage Gambling
The Lottery of the City of Buenos Aires (LOTBA) has signed a cooperation agreement with the Council of the Magistracy aimed at preventing minors from becoming involved in gambling and addressing risks linked to online betting.
The agreement focuses on creating an educational and informational guide targeted at minors, parents, and educators. The goal is to offer practical tools to reduce risk, discourage problematic behaviours and limit exposure to gambling-related content among young people.
Institutional Coordination
The agreement establishes a framework for joint work, technical support and coordinated efforts to develop a “Guideline and Informational Guide” designed to raise awareness about preventing underage gambling.
The signing was carried out by LOTBA President Jesús Mariano Acevedo and Secretary General Eva Del Río, together with Council of the Magistracy President Karina Leguizamón and Justice and Education Director Alicia Caruso.
Officials involved highlighted growing concern around youth exposure to gambling, particularly in relation to online betting environments.
LOTBA Prevention Actions
LOTBA has already introduced several initiatives to promote responsible behaviour among younger audiences and reduce gambling-related harm. One of these is the 2025 campaign “Talking is Winning” which focuses on raising awareness about the risks linked to betting, casino games and gambling activity.
The campaign also highlights how minors may access illegal gambling websites and the risks associated with increased online availability of such platforms.
In addition, LOTBA runs workshops, training sessions and awareness programmes for public employees and other sectors of society, with a continued focus on combating illegal gambling operations.
Education and Safeguards
As part of the agreement, educational materials will be distributed in primary and secondary schools, focusing on safe online behaviour and the risks of illegal gambling access.
The guide will include advice for identifying early signs of problematic gambling and provide recommendations for parents dealing with gambling-related concerns involving minors.
Coordinated Prevention Efforts
Both institutions emphasized that cooperation is essential to address a challenge that requires coordinated institutional action. LOTBA noted that the agreement supports the development of educational content and outreach materials aimed at strengthening public awareness.
Across Latin America, concerns around illegal gambling and its impact on minors continue to grow, prompting increased focus on preventive measures and protection of vulnerable groups.
