Mendoza Governor Highlights Shift to Virtual Gaming
Governor Alfredo Cornejo has drawn attention to a notable shift in the gambling industry, linking declines in live gaming to the rising popularity of online and mobile gambling platforms. Authorities, he stressed, must adapt regulations to these behavioral changes.
“Live gaming is on the decline, while virtual gaming continues to grow. Casino attendance has decreased and this trend should be taken into account,” Cornejo stated.
Technological Innovations Driving Change
Recent years have seen rapid technological development, with virtual casinos and mobile apps attracting more players. This digital transition is reshaping the gambling landscape in Mendoza and beyond.
Employment Implications
Cornejo also raised concerns about the impact on casino employment, urging staff to acknowledge the ongoing industry transformation. “Employees must understand that gaming is changing. More players are turning to mobile platforms instead of visiting casinos” he noted. Reduced in-person interaction, he added, may have implications for jobs in the sector.
Government Plans Regulatory Measures
To address these changes, the government intends to collaborate with the Ministry of Finance and IPJyC of Mendoza to develop new initiatives covering all forms of gambling. “This industry transformation requires that we implement appropriate measures for every type of game” Cornejo emphasized, though no details were disclosed.
Industry Response
Some industry representatives have questioned the governor’s outlook. Diego Luconi, Secretary General of UPJCM, noted that while virtual gaming is increasing, physical gambling remains relatively stable. “The decrease in live gaming is not dramatic. Physical casinos continue operating steadily, with only minor month-to-month variations” Luconi said.
He further recalled that government policy under Cornejo’s previous administration saw both openings and closures of gaming halls, reflecting broader regulatory adjustments rather than a sudden shift in player behavior.
Overall, Mendoza’s situation illustrates a wider transformation within the gambling sector, as virtual and digital gaming continues to influence player habits and industry regulation.
