MGM, CityU Macau Promote Responsible Gaming Among Students

MGM has wrapped up the second year of its joint responsible gaming education initiative with the City University of Macau, strengthening a cross-sector effort to promote financial literacy and responsible gambling principles among local students. The partnership combines two complementary programs aimed at helping young people develop healthier financial behaviours while gaining practical insight into Macau’s responsible gaming landscape.

Campus Ambassador Program Expands Practical Learning

The Responsible Gaming Campus Ambassador Program again adopted its “learning plus application” structure, bringing together more than thirty students from disciplines such as hospitality, tourism and social services. Through the program, participants explored the trajectory of Macau’s gaming industry and examined why responsible gaming practices remain essential to safeguarding the city’s long-term economic and social sustainability.

Sessions were led by Tina Wong, MGM’s Director of Responsible Gaming, alongside Pak Kin Pong, who heads the Integrated Services Center of the Macao Gaming Industry Employees Home. Their instruction guided students through frameworks that highlight how responsible gaming initiatives support both industry resilience and community well-being.

Creative Contest Encourages Financial Education through Innovation

Running parallel to the ambassador initiative, City University held the inaugural Healthy Financial Management Promotion Design Competition. Students were invited to produce creative projects ranging from digital campaigns to educational tools and cultural products to communicate principles of financial responsibility and responsible gaming to wider audiences.

The competition achieved substantial engagement, with all submissions shared online and viewed more than 110,000 times. The high level of participation underscored the strong interest among young people in topics relating to financial health and gaming responsibility.

Strengthening Ties Between Academia and the Gaming Industry

Wong noted that the return of the program has empowered students to integrate financial-wellness concepts into school life and community outreach through diverse, innovative approaches. She reiterated MGM’s belief that close cooperation between government bodies, corporate stakeholders, educational institutions and civil groups forms a vital foundation for Macau’s sustainable future.

City University of Macau Vice Rector Ip Kuai Peng praised the dual-program format “theory paired with practice” and “competition paired with creativity” noting that it has consistently inspired student originality while reinforcing their commitment to social responsibility. Ip also expressed confidence that the winning projects will expand their influence and contribute meaningfully to Macau's ongoing development.

A Model for Long-Term Responsible Gaming Impact

The collaboration shows how coordinated efforts between gaming operators, universities and community organizations can deliver long-term value. By providing students with real-world experience and exposure to industry challenges, the initiative helps cultivate future professionals ready to advance responsible gaming standards.

Embedding Responsible Gaming in Macau’s Social Fabric

Ultimately, the MGM CityU partnership reflects Macau’s growing emphasis on cultivating a culture of responsible gaming. Through multi-disciplinary participation and creative expression, the programs help instill lifelong values of financial prudence and responsible play, supporting gradual but lasting cultural change across the gaming-focused city.
