NBI Raids Illegal Gambling Venue Disguised as Arcade
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has dismantled an alleged illegal gambling operation operating under the guise of an amusement arcade in Makati City, leading to the arrest of 35 individuals. The operation followed an investigation into a complaint and the issuance of a search warrant by the Makati City Court.
Raid Leads to 35 Arrests
According to the NBI, 26 Japanese nationals and 9 Filipino employees were taken into custody during the raid at Goraku Amusement Center, located inside The Gallery Building.
The operation was carried out by the NBI’s Dangerous Drugs Division, which launched an investigation after receiving information about suspected illegal activities at the establishment. Once the allegations were verified, investigators secured a search warrant issued on July 16, which was executed during the raid.
The bureau’s Office for Transnational Crime Division also participated in the operation due to the number of individuals involved.
Gambling Equipment Confiscated
During the search, authorities seized 103 slot machines, gambling-related equipment and payment records believed to be connected to the operation.
Investigators stated that although the venue was presented as an amusement arcade, evidence collected during the raid indicated it was allegedly being used for illegal gambling. The confiscated items have been taken as evidence for the ongoing investigation.
The NBI said the case forms part of its wider efforts to identify and dismantle illegal gambling operations concealed behind legitimate business fronts.
Criminal Charges Filed
All suspects remain in NBI custody and are facing charges under Presidential Decree No. 1602, which imposes stricter penalties for illegal gambling offenses.
Authorities said the investigation is continuing as legal proceedings move forward.
The Makati operation highlights the bureau’s continued enforcement against illegal gambling establishments operating under the appearance of lawful commercial businesses. With dozens of arrests and more than 100 slot machines seized, the case represents another step in the NBI’s ongoing campaign against unlawful gambling activities.
