Philippines Arrests 9,401 in July Gambling Crackdown
The Philippine National Police (PNP) reported that 9,401 people were apprehended in July for alleged involvement in illegal gambling during nationwide enforcement operations. Authorities also confiscated more than PHP3.2 million, equivalent to around US$53,000, in gambling stakes, along with gambling equipment and other related materials.
Community Reports Support Enforcement Operations
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said information provided by local communities remains an important tool for identifying illegal gambling locations.
According to the police, illegal gambling sites continue to operate in both urban and rural areas, making information from residents valuable in locating suspected gambling hubs.
The PNP said intelligence gathered from the public is used to help plan enforcement operations against suspected illegal gambling locations across the country. Nartatez added that community-based intelligence remains part of the police strategy to identify and dismantle illegal gambling networks.
Crackdown Covers Areas Beyond Metro Manila
The PNP stressed that its enforcement campaign extends beyond Metro Manila and includes municipalities, provinces and remote areas.
Authorities described the effort as a nationwide campaign rather than an initiative focused on specific cities. The objective is to ensure that illegal gambling activities outside major urban centres also remain within the scope of enforcement operations.
The police said intensified operations are continuing across different parts of the Philippines as part of the ongoing campaign against illegal gambling.
July Operations Lead to Thousands of Arrests
The July figures highlight the scale of the enforcement activity carried out during the month. The PNP recorded 9,401 apprehensions linked to alleged illegal gambling and seized betting funds, gambling equipment and other materials.
The police did not provide further details about the individual cases or specify the types of gambling involved. Instead, the figures were released as part of the PNP’s monthly reporting on its anti-illegal gambling activities.
The latest results add to the police force’s overall record of enforcement actions targeting illegal gambling locations and individuals allegedly involved in such activities.
PNP Signals Continued Enforcement
The latest PNP statement indicates that operations against illegal gambling will continue across the country. Authorities said community intelligence will remain an important source for identifying potential targets, alongside continued enforcement in different regions.
Nartatez said the campaign is intended to address illegal gambling as well as broader criminal issues that may be associated with the activity. The police have presented the crackdown as part of wider efforts to maintain peace and order within communities.
Following the July arrests and seizures, the PNP said it will continue pursuing illegal gambling activities nationwide.
