Philippines Ends All POGO Operations Nationwide
The Philippines has officially eliminated all offshore gaming hubs, according to the Department of Justice, following a nationwide crackdown targeting Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs). Justice Secretary Fredderick Vida confirmed that the government’s policy to end all POGO operations has been fully executed.
Crackdown Brings Full Closure
Vida stated that enforcement measures led to the shutdown of 80% of operational hubs within just one month of the deadline. He emphasized that there are no legal or unauthorized POGO operations remaining in the country, reinforcing the government’s firm stance against offshore gaming.
Authorities explained that the remaining sites that previously hosted POGOs have now been cleared. The DOJ highlighted that the shutdown represents the successful implementation of the policy to remove all official offshore gaming activity nationwide.
Ongoing Monitoring and Enforcement
Despite the closure, monitoring will continue to ensure no illegal POGO operations emerge. The DOJ indicated that authorities are ready to act against any unauthorized attempts to restart offshore gaming activities, maintaining vigilance even after the official shutdown.
Security and Policy Rationale
The POGO closures are part of broader government efforts to address potential security and economic risks tied to the sector. Vida framed the actions as a measure to protect the public and prevent transnational crimes associated with offshore gaming.
Government Signals Zero Tolerance
While the country is now officially free of POGO hubs, the DOJ stressed that enforcement will remain a priority. Authorities have confirmed that the ban is fully in effect and that any re-emergence of unauthorized operations will be met with immediate action.
