Premier League Betting Sponsors Face 2026 Shirt Ban
Betting operators continue to play a major role in football sponsorship worldwide. In the Premier League, widely considered the most financially powerful football league globally, 17 of the 20 clubs currently maintain sponsorship agreements with betting companies.
Among those teams, 11 clubs display betting brands on the front of their match shirts. These include Aston Villa, AFC Bournemouth, Brentford, Burnley, Crystal Palace, Everton, Fulham, Nottingham Forest, Sunderland, West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
In addition, six other clubs have partnerships with betting companies that focus primarily on digital platforms or specific regional markets. These teams include Arsenal, Brighton & Hove Albion, Chelsea, Manchester City, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur.
The figures underline how closely connected football and the betting industry have become over the years.
Premier League to Introduce New Sponsorship Rules
Despite the strong relationship between the two industries, changes to sponsorship policies are on the way. Beginning with the 2026/27 Premier League season, betting companies will no longer be permitted to appear on the front of team shirts.
However, sponsorship placements will still be allowed on shirt sleeves and the back of jerseys, meaning betting operators will continue to have a visible presence in the league.
Daniel Fortune, a digital influencer who focuses on the betting sector and responsible gambling, commented on the broader significance of these partnerships.
According to Fortune, the decision to limit but not fully ban betting sponsorships highlights the strategic importance of the sector to modern football.
He also noted that as the betting industry continues to expand globally, it becomes increasingly important to encourage responsible gaming practices supported by clear information, limits and guidance.
Betting Partnerships Decline in Brazil’s Top League
While betting sponsorship remains widespread in English football, the situation has shifted in Brazil.
During the 2025 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A season, 19 out of 20 clubs had sponsorship agreements with betting companies.
However, the number dropped significantly ahead of the 2026 season. Several clubs ended their partnerships with betting operators and chose not to renew them.
Teams that discontinued these deals include Esporte Clube Bahia, Coritiba, Grêmio, Sport Club Internacional, Mirassol and Vasco da Gama.
As a result, only 13 clubs in Brazil’s top division currently maintain sponsorship agreements with betting operators. Red Bull Bragantino, which has not previously partnered with betting brands, also contributes to the lower overall number.
Balancing Business and Responsibility
As gambling regulations evolve across different jurisdictions, the relationship between football and betting companies continues to develop. Industry observers note that maintaining a balance between commercial partnerships and responsible gaming remains an important challenge for both sectors.
