Spain DGOJ Introduces Shared Deposit Limits
Spain’s gambling regulator, the Directorate General for the Regulation of Gambling (DGOJ), is progressing with new safer gambling measures, including a nationwide system for monitoring player deposits and a digital portal giving consumers greater visibility over their gambling activity.
The initiatives are designed to strengthen oversight across licensed operators, improve transparency around spending and introduce additional safeguards for players. However, the rollout has also placed pressure on operators, some of which have raised concerns about unclear technical requirements and the pace of implementation.
Shared Deposit Limits to Apply Across Licensed Operators
Under the new framework, deposits made by an individual player across different licensed gambling operators will be combined and monitored centrally. If a player exceeds the applicable limit, restrictions will apply across their gambling accounts, regardless of which operator they use.
The DGOJ is completing the testing phase of the shared deposit monitoring system. All licensed online gambling operators in Spain must integrate with the platform before Royal Decree 520/2026 takes effect on 25 March 2027.
The default deposit thresholds will be set at €700 per day, €1,750 per week and €3,300 over a four-week period. These collective limits will operate alongside the individual limits already imposed by operators.
Players will be able to request changes to, or removal of, their shared deposit limits through a dedicated process that includes additional information about gambling risks. Any approved change or removal will take effect only after three working days.
Requests to increase a deposit limit will also be restricted, with players permitted to submit no more than one such application every three months.
To support the system, the regulator has developed a technical platform capable of processing deposit information in real time.
New Player Portal Offers Spending and Activity Records
Alongside the monitoring system, the DGOJ has introduced a new Player Portal designed to give consumers access to detailed information about their gambling transactions and spending.
Through the portal, users can review deposits, stakes, winnings and losses, as well as access their complete transaction history and related statistics.
The platform also allows players to receive notifications about their spending and gambling activity, establish deposit limits and download reports covering their gambling activity for an entire tax year.
Together, the measures establish a centralised approach to deposit monitoring while giving players additional tools to review and manage their gambling activity across Spain’s licensed online gambling market.
