Sun Group Drives Phu Quoc Tourism with Hotels & Casinos

Sun Group is setting its sights on Phu Quoc Island to create a world-class regional tourism hub, aiming to rival Southeast Asia’s top destinations, including Phuket, Bali and Jeju. The conglomerate’s strategy blends aviation growth, luxury resorts and gaming opportunities enabled by recent policy changes in Vietnam.

Building an Integrated Travel and Hospitality Ecosystem
Owning key aviation assets, including Phu Quoc International Airport, Sun Group plans to launch a new airline. Initially serving high-demand domestic routes, the carrier intends to expand internationally, growing its fleet from eight planes in 2025 to nearly 100 by 2030. Long-haul aircraft will eventually connect Phu Quoc to intercontinental markets, supporting the island’s tourism ambitions.

The company’s vertical integration extends into premium hotels, entertainment venues and gaming facilities, allowing it to control the entire visitor journey from arrival to accommodation, leisure and entertainment experiences.

Phu Quoc’s Expanding Tourist Appeal
Visitor numbers to the island have climbed steadily, fueled by infrastructure improvements, privatization of airports and shifting regional travel patterns. Sun Group’s airline expansion addresses international connectivity gaps, aiming to attract high-spending tourists and elevate the island’s profile as a global destination.

Gaming Policy Transformation Unlocks New Potential
The government’s Resolution No. 307/2025 marks a turning point by granting permanent casino access to Vietnamese nationals at Corona Resort & Casino the first of its kind on Phu Quoc. Sun Group has also secured a five-year locals-gaming quota for its Van Don development, set to open in 2032, highlighting its long-term vision for domestic gaming growth.

Massive Hotel Expansion Plans
Sun Group intends to construct up to 20,000 hotel rooms on Phu Quoc and an additional 20,000 on a neighboring island, nearly doubling the island’s hospitality capacity and rivaling Macau’s current inventory. The primary Phu Quoc development could be operational as soon as 2027, demonstrating the scale of the company’s ambition.

Infrastructure and Real Estate Leadership
Sun Group has leveraged its expertise across multiple sectors: land reclamation, theme parks, airports, airline operations and VIP charter services to establish itself as Vietnam’s premier integrated developer. These assets strengthen its position to support future gaming and hospitality expansion.

A Competitive Edge in Southeast Asia
By linking upgraded air access with newly authorized casino operations, Sun Group is adopting an internationally recognized integrated tourism model. With these developments, Phu Quoc is poised to emerge as a leading regional destination, attracting high-value visitors and reshaping Southeast Asia’s tourism landscape.
