Overview

UPI (Unified Payments Interface) is an instant payment system developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and launched in 2016. It enables users to send and receive money directly between bank accounts using mobile apps, virtual payment addresses (VPAs), QR codes or mobile numbers. Designed for interoperability, UPI supports real-time transactions 24 hours a day, seven days a week, across hundreds of banks and payment service providers.

Within the iGaming industry, UPI is widely accepted by licensed online casinos and sportsbooks serving the Indian market. Players benefit from instant deposits, seamless bank authentication and a familiar mobile payment experience. Its rapid adoption and extensive banking integration have made UPI one of the most important payment methods for operators targeting Indian players.
