AMIG Responds to Brazilian President’s Criticism of Betting

The Association of Women in Gaming (AMIG) issued a formal response on Sunday, March 8, following remarks made by the President of Brazil the previous day, which criticized the country’s betting sector. AMIG expressed both surprise and concern over the statements, emphasizing the importance of recognizing women’s contributions to the industry.

AMIG represents over 1,400 professionals across the gaming sector, including experts in technology, legal and compliance, marketing, payments, sports integrity and corporate governance.

Women’s Role Across the Gaming Ecosystem
The association highlighted that women are active throughout the gaming industry’s value chain. Research conducted by AMIG shows that female professionals help shape a “safe, professional and globally aligned” gaming ecosystem.

Economic Impact of Women in Gaming
AMIG pointed out the financial significance of the sector, noting that operators invested R$4.5 billion in public-sector contributions last year. Brazil’s Federal Revenue Service collected nearly R$9.95 billion in taxes from online betting firms in 2025, including IRPJ, CSLL, PIS/Cofins, social security contributions and the mandatory 12% allocation under Law No. 13.756/2018.

Critique of Timing
The association criticized the timing of the President’s remarks, which coincided with International Women’s Day celebrations. AMIG argued that the comments demonstrated a lack of understanding of a sector that generates jobs, revenue and economic growth, highlighting the role of women in achieving these results.

Commitment to Gender Equality
AMIG reaffirmed its mission to promote gender equality in the gaming sector. The organization stressed that women’s participation in leadership, decision-making and innovation is essential for the continued growth of Brazil’s betting market, which has the potential to rank among the top three regulated markets globally.

In conclusion, AMIG emphasized that the development of Brazil’s gaming industry is strongly supported by women professionals, stating that “the growth of the industry is also a story built by women who help construct it every day.”
