BGC Launches DEI Principles for UK Betting and iGaming

The Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) has released a new Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Statement of Principles to provide a common framework for workplace standards across the regulated betting and igaming sector. The initiative, issued ahead of International Women’s Day on 8 March, aims to promote consistent inclusion and employment practices throughout the industry.

Representing both online and retail operators, the BGC said the DEI statement sets out baseline commitments for members to ensure fair opportunity, professional conduct and safe working environments. The principles highlight the importance of treating employees with dignity and respect, supporting merit-based recruitment and career progression and prioritising mental health and wellbeing. Legal compliance and responsible operational practices within regulated igaming and betting environments are also emphasised.

The BGC plans to support the initiative through its People’s Forum, which gathers representatives from member companies to share practical inclusion strategies and workplace policies. As part of the rollout, the organisation is also surveying members to collect data on diversity within the regulated sector, helping to identify areas where further guidance or support may be needed.

Covering firms responsible for over 90 percent of the UK’s regulated betting and igaming market, the BGC said the statement provides a shared reference point while allowing companies to tailor DEI policies to their own structures and workforces. The trade body will monitor sector-wide progress and highlight examples of companies implementing the principles.

Grainne Hurst, Chief Executive of the BGC, commented: “International Women’s Day is an opportunity to reflect on how we can build a more diverse, equitable and inclusive regulated betting and gaming industry. Our sector employs hundreds of thousands of people across shops, offices, technology hubs and customer-facing roles, and we must ensure these workplaces are fair, respectful and safe. Through this Statement of Principles, we are establishing a clear baseline for the whole industry, encouraging collaboration, sharing best practice and creating environments where talent from all backgrounds can thrive.”
