GLI Meets Bulgaria Regulator Over AI Gambling
Gaming Laboratories International has strengthened its engagement with Bulgaria’s gambling regulator as discussions around artificial intelligence, esports betting and virtual sports continue to shape regulatory conversations across Europe.
Representatives from GLI’s Government and Regulatory Affairs division travelled to Sofia for meetings with the National Revenue Agency, which oversees gambling supervision in the country.
The discussions involved Lucas Zavarise and Kevin Kostreci, alongside Alexander Popov and Martin Yakimov.
According to statements following the meeting, the discussions focused on gambling products involving artificial intelligence technologies, virtual sports and esports betting markets. The talks also explored communication between the regulator and GLI regarding gaming software and equipment approval processes for licensed operators.
The meeting was described as part of a wider effort to improve cooperation and technical dialogue between regulators and certification specialists as gambling technologies continue to evolve.
GLI operates as a testing and certification provider for gaming systems, software and equipment across multiple international jurisdictions. The company’s role in compliance and certification means its work frequently intersects with regulatory standards applied to gambling technology.
Zavarise said the conversations in Sofia focused on creating more practical and forward-looking regulatory approaches as new technologies continue to influence gambling products and operations.
The discussions come during a politically active period in Bulgaria, where gambling regulation remains connected to broader debates around taxation, consumer protection and industry oversight.
Milen Totev has previously stated that future gambling policy decisions should involve consultation between operators, regulators and technical specialists.
The talks also highlighted regulatory challenges linked to emerging betting formats, including virtual sports and AI-enhanced gambling products, as authorities continue evaluating whether existing licensing frameworks adequately address evolving technologies and player engagement systems.
