Korea Sports Leisure Launches Illegal Betting Reward System
Korea Sports Leisure Co., Ltd. has introduced a reporting incentive scheme offering rewards of up to 200 million won for information on breaches of the National Sports Promotion Act, submitted via its Illegal Sports Toto Reporting Center. The initiative is aimed at increasing public participation in identifying illegal sports gambling activities, including operators, users and those promoting such platforms.
The reporting system is operated by Korea Sports Leisure, an organisation authorised with sports promotion voting rights by the Seoul Olympic Memorial National Sports Promotion Foundation. Reports can be submitted through the official website or by calling 1899-1119, with reward amounts determined based on the severity of the violation and the outcome of the review process.
Reward framework
The reporting center applies a tiered reward structure depending on the type of violation. Large-scale illegal sports gambling operations may qualify for payouts of up to 200 million won, while match-fixing-related activities linked to sports promotion voting rights can receive up to 50 million won.
Other offences, such as participation in illegal betting, promotion, system development, mediation, relay activities, or the distribution of betting-related information, are eligible for rewards of up to 15 million won. The structure reflects the range of offences targeted, from major organised operations to supporting roles within illegal betting networks.
Individual reports of illegal gambling websites can be rewarded up to 15,000 won per case, with a maximum annual limit of 1.5 million won per reporter, subject to review by the Korea Communications Commission. In certain cases involving repeat or mass-replicated sites, rewards may be limited to first-time submissions.
Submission process
To file a report, users must complete identity verification through the reporting portal before providing details such as URLs, login credentials, recommended information and supporting evidence. The system is also designed to accept reports involving bank accounts linked to illegal gambling activity.
In such cases, a reward of around 100,000 won per account may be issued, with no cap on the number of submissions. All rewards are subject to verification and approval following internal assessment procedures.
The reporting framework is designed to cover both digital gambling platforms and the financial channels that support them, allowing authorities to track and investigate broader networks involved in illegal betting activity.
Notification and verification
Korea Sports Leisure stated that applicants will be notified of reward decisions via text message. For this reason, accurate mobile contact information is required when submitting reports to ensure proper communication of outcomes.
The process is structured to allow public participation while maintaining an official review stage before any reward is issued. Each submission is assessed to determine eligibility and payout level based on the evidence provided.
Public participation and enforcement goals
The organisation said that citizen involvement plays a key role in addressing illegal sports gambling and reducing related social harm. It added that the system will continue operating as part of wider efforts to prevent illegal betting activity.
By encouraging reporting across multiple categories of violations, the initiative aims to strengthen enforcement and improve detection of illegal sports betting networks operating within and beyond online platforms.
