Singapore Betting Tax Collection Hits SGD3.6 Billion
Singapore collected SGD3.6 billion (US$2.8 billion) in betting taxes, including gambling duties and casino tax, during the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026. The figure represents an 11.9% year-on-year increase.
The figures were reported in the latest annual report from the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS). The authority refers to the period as fiscal year 2025.
The increase was significantly higher than the 1.7% growth recorded in the previous fiscal year, when betting-tax receipts reached SGD3.2 billion.
Betting Taxes Maintain Stable Revenue Share
Despite the double-digit increase in betting-tax collections, their contribution to Singapore’s overall tax revenue remained relatively unchanged.
Betting taxes accounted for 3.7% of the SGD97.3 billion collected by IRAS during the 12 months to March 31. In the previous fiscal year, the category represented around 3.6% of total tax revenue, which stood at SGD88.9 billion.
IRAS does not provide a separate breakdown showing how much was collected through casino tax compared with other gambling duties.
Singapore’s Two Casino Resorts
Singapore has two casino complexes: Marina Bay Sands, operated by a subsidiary of US-based Las Vegas Sands Corp and Resorts World Sentosa, operated by Genting Singapore Ltd.
Both are included within the betting-tax category reported by IRAS, although the authority does not separately identify casino-tax receipts in its annual figures.
Total Tax Revenue Also Increases
Singapore’s overall tax collection grew by 9.4% year-on-year during the fiscal year ended March 31.
IRAS attributed the increase across the different tax categories to stronger economic activity and consumer spending during the period.
Corporate income tax remained the largest contributor, generating SGD34.4 billion, equivalent to 35.4% of total tax revenue. Goods and services tax contributed SGD21.7 billion, while individual income tax generated SGD20.9 billion.
Betting taxes ranked as the second-smallest major category reported by IRAS, with only withholding tax producing less revenue at SGD2.5 billion.
Tax Revenue and GDP
The SGD97.3 billion collected by IRAS during the latest fiscal year represented 74.8% of the Singapore government’s operating revenue.
According to the annual report, the amount was also equivalent to 12.3% of Singapore’s gross domestic product.
IRAS Highlights Fiscal Year Performance
IRAS commissioner Ow Fook Chuen described fiscal year 2025 as a strong and important period for the organisation.
He said the authority collected SGD97.3 billion in revenue while maintaining a cost of collection of 0.63 cents for every dollar collected. Tax arrears remained at 0.64% of net tax assessed.
Ow also noted that IRAS processed nearly SGD1.2 billion in disbursements intended to support businesses and jobs during the period. These payments formed part of the authority’s broader responsibilities in managing tax revenue and supporting economic activity.
Betting Tax Growth Remains Limited in Overall Share
Although betting-tax receipts increased by 11.9%, the category continued to account for a relatively small portion of Singapore’s overall tax revenue.
Its 3.7% share in the latest fiscal year was only slightly higher than the 3.6% recorded a year earlier, reflecting the increase in total tax collections alongside the growth in betting-tax receipts.
IRAS Does Not Separate Casino Tax Data
The latest IRAS annual report provides a combined figure for betting taxes rather than separate totals for casino tax and other gambling duties.
As a result, the SGD3.6 billion figure represents the combined amount collected under the betting-tax category. The report provides this figure alongside Singapore’s broader tax revenue performance for fiscal year 2025.
