Stake Blocked in Ireland Following GRAI Action

Irish customers can no longer access Stake following action by the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland (GRAI).

The development comes after Ireland introduced its new online betting licensing framework, alongside increased enforcement by the GRAI against gambling providers operating illegally in the country. Stake is reportedly understood to have restricted access for Irish users this week.

While the GRAI did not identify the companies targeted in its latest enforcement measures, The Irish Times reported that Stake was the operator affected.

According to the authority, its actions have made two major prediction markets and a major gambling platform unavailable to users in Ireland. The GRAI said it remains in contact with the affected companies to ensure Irish customers can recover their deposits.

The regulator is seeking to enforce Irish gambling law across more than 100 companies involved in offshore gambling operations that are not permitted in the country, as well as unlicensed gambling in pubs and illegal casinos.

The restriction in Ireland comes after Stake also faced access limitations in Nigeria. The operator’s website was blocked across more than 24 Nigerian states as part of regulatory measures targeting gambling sites.

The actions in both markets add further pressure on Stake’s operations across regulated and emerging gambling jurisdictions.
