Cambodia Intensifies Casino and Fraud Crackdown
Cambodia has stepped up its efforts against online fraud, with Prime Minister Hun Manet urging provincial authorities to continue targeting scam operations while strengthening oversight of the country’s casino industry.
According to local media reports, the government aims to safeguard Cambodia’s international reputation and maintain a secure environment for both investors and visitors by intensifying enforcement against illegal activities.
Nationwide Casino Inspections
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Aun Pornmoniroth has instructed relevant agencies to carry out inspections of casinos across the country to verify that they are operating under valid licences.
As chairman of the Commercial Gambling Management Commission, Aun Pornmoniroth stated that any casino found to be connected to online fraud or other unlawful activities could face licence suspension or revocation.
Authorities are treating casino compliance reviews and anti-fraud enforcement as part of a coordinated effort to strengthen regulation of the sector.
Focus on Online Fraud
During remarks reported on Friday, Prime Minister Hun Manet reaffirmed the government’s commitment to combating online fraud, stating that such criminal activity undermines confidence in Cambodia’s investment climate.
The campaign has already resulted in significant enforcement actions. Figures released by the state-run Agence Kampuchea Presse, citing the Commission for Combating Online Scams, indicate that more than 500 scam locations were targeted nationwide between early 2025 and 22 June 2026.
The same report noted that 25 casino licences had been revoked or suspended as part of the wider enforcement initiative.
Ongoing Regulatory Measures
The latest developments come while former Prime Minister Hun Sen is visiting China on an official goodwill trip, where he is meeting with President Xi Jinping and other senior Chinese officials. Although the visit is unrelated to the enforcement campaign, it coincides with continued regulatory activity within Cambodia.
The government has made it clear that action against online fraud and tighter supervision of licensed casinos will remain a priority.
Current enforcement efforts continue on two fronts: dismantling online scam operations and reviewing casino licence holders for potential links to illegal activities. Officials say both initiatives are intended to strengthen public confidence, protect the country's business environment and improve oversight of the regulated gaming industry.
