Macau Casino Revenue Falls 12.1% in June
Macau’s casino sector recorded a slower month in June, with gross gaming revenue (GGR) reaching MOP18.52 billion (US$2.29 billion), according to figures released by the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ). The total was 12.1% lower than June 2025 and 18.1% below the MOP22.61 billion generated in May.
June Weighs on Second-Quarter Results
The softer June performance reduced momentum during the second quarter. Between April and June, Macau’s casinos generated MOP61.03 billion in GGR, representing a marginal 0.1% decrease compared with the MOP61.11 billion reported during the same period last year.
While the quarter remained broadly stable, June’s weaker figures offset the stronger performance seen in May.
First-Half Revenue Remains Higher
Despite the monthly slowdown, Macau’s gaming market continues to outperform last year on a year-to-date basis.
From January to June, total casino GGR reached MOP126.90 billion, marking a 6.8% increase compared with the first six months of 2025. The latest figures indicate that gains made earlier in the year have helped maintain positive annual growth despite June's decline.
Analysts Point to FIFA World Cup
Several industry analysts had previously suggested that the 2026 FIFA World Cup, taking place between 11 June and 19 July across the United States, Canada and Mexico, could temporarily affect gaming demand in Macau.
The global football tournament has been viewed as a factor that may divert entertainment spending and player attention away from casino activity during the competition.
June’s results were released against that backdrop, adding weight to earlier expectations that the event could have a short-term impact on Macau’s gaming performance.
Market Focus Turns to Second Half
Although the first half of 2026 remains ahead of last year's pace, the latest figures indicate that growth moderated during June. With second-quarter revenue finishing almost unchanged year-on-year, market observers will now be watching whether Macau's casinos regain momentum once the World Cup concludes.
The June performance highlights a temporary slowdown, but Macau’s gaming industry still enters the second half of the year with overall revenue ahead of 2025 levels.
