Norsk Tipping Expects Record Bets on Norway vs England

Norway’s World Cup campaign has sparked a wave of excitement among supporters, with the team’s popular rowing celebration becoming a familiar sight both on the streets of Oslo and in stadiums across the United States. Attention now turns to the highly anticipated clash between Norway and England, a match many have framed as a battle between Harry Kane and Erling Haaland.

The excitement has also translated into record betting activity. When Norway faced Brazil, state-owned operator Norsk Tipping recorded its highest-ever betting turnout, with around 350,000 customers logging in to place wagers. For the match against England, the operator expects participation to rise to approximately 400,000 bettors.

Football fever has also benefited other companies serving Norwegian customers. Several operators told us they have experienced record betting volumes during the FIFA World Cup.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the Norwegian Gambling Authority had contacted individuals who shared content in Facebook groups that the regulator believes may breach the country's Gambling Act.

Norwegian media also recently reported that two young bettors placed wagers totaling US$28,000 on Norway to defeat Brazil and collected almost US$130,000 in winnings. By comparison, Norsk Tipping said the largest payout to one of its customers during the tournament has remained below NOK300,000 (around €28,000).

The operator also continues to operate under stricter payout and responsible gambling limits than betting companies licensed in Curaçao and other offshore jurisdictions. Although access to the Norwegian market has become more difficult for those operators, they continue to attract customers.

Female Bettors Continue to Grow

Norsk Tipping reported exceptionally strong betting activity throughout the tournament, with one notable trend being the growing number of female bettors.

According to the operator, women are not only placing more bets during the World Cup but are also achieving better winning results than male customers.

Norway’s Success Challenges the Bookmaker

Norway’s performances have exceeded bookmaker expectations, with many supporters backing the national team despite the odds.

As a result, Norsk Tipping expects to record a loss on its World Cup betting markets.

The operator estimates its losses have already reached NOK32 million (approximately €3 million) because of Norway’s results.

If Norway defeats England, Norsk Tipping expects those losses to increase even further.
