Playtech Raises Concerns Over Evolution Report

Playtech has raised concerns about the recently released Spectrum Report, which confirms that games from Evolution are accessible in restricted markets while leaving questions unanswered about Iran, Syria and Sudan due to gaps in the available data.

The Spectrum Report examines allegations previously raised by Black Cube concerning Evolution’s activities in prohibited markets. Black Cube submitted the report in connection with its ongoing litigation involving Evolution.

Playtech said Evolution had previously characterised the report as exculpatory but declined to publish it, citing concerns surrounding confidential financial information.

According to reports, Spectrum’s findings support some of the claims made by Black Cube regarding the availability of Evolution’s games in banned markets and the regulatory implications associated with that activity.

However, Spectrum was unable to establish whether gaming sessions actually took place in Iran, Syria or Sudan.

The report states that the lack of information prevented Spectrum from completing important elements of its investigation. As a result, questions remain over whether Evolution’s games were available in those restricted markets.

Spectrum also examined how Evolution monitors operators that provide gaming services using its products. The report noted that Evolution “does not take any proactive action” to ensure that these operators “do comply with the terms of contracts.”

Playtech said the findings reinforce its concerns about Evolution’s compliance procedures. The company highlighted Spectrum’s assessment of the issues as “problematic” and said they place Evolution in “a difficult position with law enforcement agencies.”

Playtech has also reaffirmed its decision to proceed with the original Black Cube investigation. It expects upcoming court hearings to examine the credibility and legitimacy of that investigation and the concerns raised through it.
