Rizal Police Arrest Eight in Illegal Betting Raids
Police in Rizal carried out a series of coordinated operations on Friday, resulting in eight arrests linked to illegal betting activities in the municipalities of Morong and Teresa. The actions, conducted hours apart, uncovered equipment used for gambling along with cash believed to be connected to the operations.
Authorities launched the raids after identifying suspicious behaviour in residential areas. What initially appeared to be low-profile locations were found to be hosting concealed gambling setups. Investigations are ongoing, with formal charges being prepared based on the evidence collected.
Morong Operation
At around 7:40 p.m., personnel from the Rizal Police Provincial Office, working alongside local officers, conducted an operation on T. Claudio Street in Barangay Maybancal, Morong. Seven individuals were taken into custody during the raid.
According to police, those arrested were involved in operating an illegal numbers game commonly referred to as “bookies.” Authorities seized ₱3,415 in cash, along with items used in the activity, including calculators, notebooks, ballpens, betting slips, a plastic container and a shoulder bag.
Teresa Arrest
Earlier in the day, officers from the Teresa police station responded to a tip regarding suspected illegal betting activity beneath a residential property in Barangay Dulumbayan. Acting on the information, they conducted an operation around 6:00 p.m., leading to the arrest of one individual.
Police reported that the suspect was engaged in the same type of illegal numbers game. Items recovered included betting stubs, handwritten records of wagers, a ballpen, a sling bag and ₱40 in cash.
Legal Proceedings Underway
All eight individuals are currently in custody as authorities prepare to file charges under Presidential Decree No. 1602, as amended by Republic Act No. 9287, which addresses illegal gambling activities.
Rizal Police Provincial Director Eleazar Barber Jr. praised the coordinated efforts of the units involved and reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to combating illegal gambling. He also called on the public to continue supporting law enforcement efforts through information sharing to help maintain peace and order.
