Western Visayas Police Make 221 Illegal Gambling Arrests

Throughout March, law enforcement in Western Visayas stepped up efforts against illegal gambling, arresting 221 individuals during 93 coordinated operations across the region. Authorities also confiscated approximately PHP 142,000 in betting funds, according to the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6).

Regionwide Arrests and Seizures
On average, more than seven suspects were apprehended daily between March 1 and March 31, 2026. In total, 221 arrests were made, alongside the seizure of PHP 142,052.75 in betting money. PRO-6 described the campaign as sustained and coordinated, citing persistent illegal gambling activity as the driving factor behind the crackdown.

Iloilo Leads the Operations
Among the police units, the Iloilo City Police Office led the charge with 38 operations, followed by the Iloilo Police Provincial Office with 23 operations. Additional contributions came from police units in Aklan, Antique, Capiz and Guimaras, highlighting a regional effort rather than a focus on a single locality.

Authorities Emphasize Ongoing Enforcement
PRO-6 stressed that these actions reflect the region’s commitment to curbing illegal gambling, which is often linked to other criminal activities. Police reminded the public that participating in illegal gambling, whether as an operator, financier or player, carries legal consequences.

Crackdown Continues
The March figures show that enforcement remains active and visible throughout Western Visayas. With over 200 arrests and nearly 100 operations conducted, authorities signaled that efforts to combat illegal gambling will continue, with further arrests likely as operations persist.
