Dynam Japan Profit Falls 35% Amid Cost Pressure

Dynam Japan Holdings reported a 35.1% decline in profit attributable to shareholders for the financial year ended 31 March 2026, while maintaining its final dividend at JPY2.5 per share, equivalent to around $0.016. The Japanese pachinko hall operator pointed to softer trading conditions and rising costs as key factors behind the weaker annual performance.

According to figures submitted to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, attributable profit fell to JPY2.603 billion ($16.3 million), compared to JPY4.009 billion recorded a year earlier. Profit before income tax also declined by 34.5% year-on-year to JPY3.975 billion ($24.9 million), while total revenue slipped 2.3% to JPY123.186 billion ($772.7 million).

The group’s consolidated operating profit dropped 16.6% to JPY9.154 billion ($57.4 million). Revenue from Dynam’s core pachinko operations decreased by 3.0% year-on-year to JPY115.43 billion ($724.1 million), reflecting continued pressure on the company’s primary business segment.

Dynam stated that higher impairment losses and finance-related expenses weighed on results despite lower pachinko operating costs during the period. Other operating expenses climbed 79.9% to JPY5.227 billion ($32.8 million), mainly due to increased impairment losses tied to non-financial assets.

As of 31 March 2026, the company operated 423 pachinko halls across Japan, down from 427 the previous year. During the financial year, Dynam opened two new halls while closing six underperforming locations. The newly opened venues featured a higher proportion of pachislot machines compared to traditional pachinko machines, aligning with shifting player demand trends.

The wider pachinko industry saw some recovery in player activity during the year, largely driven by the popularity of smart pachislot machines. However, traditional pachinko continues to face weaker demand, influencing how operators adjust machine allocation and gaming floor layouts.

Despite lower earnings, Dynam confirmed a final dividend payment of JPY2.5 per share, payable on 26 June 2026 to shareholders on record as of 5 June. Combined with the interim dividend, the company’s total annual payout stands at JPY5.0 per share, or approximately $0.031.

The latest results highlight the challenges facing Japan’s pachinko sector as operators continue adapting to changing consumer preferences and ongoing pressure on revenue and profitability.
